  8. NameCleaner is a utility to clean up messy file names. It's purpose is to:
  9. • Give files with definable DOS/Windows extensions corresponding Macintosh Type/Creator codes and name suffixes.
  10. • Remove non-viewable characters, “smart”en quotes, and pad out punctuation marks (with exclusions).
  11. • Perform automatic capitalisation for words of different lengths, and apply a dictionary for special cases.
  12. • Find and replace any definable phrase with a corresponding phrase.
  13. • Append information (size, date and type) about individual files and apply a dictionary for type phrases.
  14. • Filter Macintosh names for DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows95™, NetWare™ and other foreign file systems.
  15. • Give files with definable Type Codes corresponding DOS, Windows 3.x, and Window95™ Extensions.

  17. NameCleaner requires System 7.
  18. Any volume, folder or file dragged onto NameCleaner from the Finder™ will be available for cleaning.
  19. Items may be added from within NameCleaner, and the effects of cleaning may be previewed.
  20. Extensive help is available under “NameCleaner Help” in the Balloon or Apple menu.
  21. Balloon Help is also available for all NameCleaner dialog boxes and menu items.

  23. NameCleaner is shareware.
  24. If you with to use the program, you are obliged to send a registration fee of UK £10.00, or US $20.00 to the above name and address. Doing so will enable use of Option Sets and Report Storing. Options Sets allow separate settings to be maintained for different requirements. Report Storing allows a full log to be kept and copied to other applications.

NameCleaner is a highly polished software product. It includes such niceties as Balloon Help, Error recovery, Finder™ Drag-and-Drop, and Memory shortage management which most authors justifiably leave out. It was only completed once registrations for other shareware were received. The moral is: Registration encourages shareware authors to write. Your small fee ensures the future of the best value quality software available.
